Civil Society organsiations have called on all stake holders in Uganda to do what it takes to end violence against women and girls that are on the rise based on forms of culture and norms.

 

This has been said at the launch of the campaign entitled “enough campaign in Uganda”, under the theme; together we can end violence against women and girls” spearheaded by Oxfam Uganda and UWONET.

 

It is on this occasion that the minister of state for gender and culture in Buganda Kingdom Ow’ek Prosperous Nankindu Kavuma pledge that Buganda kingdom is willing and ready to support the campaign to end the vice.

 

Rita Acilo the Executive Director UWONET, noted that their findings indicate that a lot of work has to be done to end violence against women through sensitizing men on gender based related forms of violence including prioritizing boys in various aspects such as education.

 

Meanwhile the Woman Member of Parliament for Kasese Hon. Winnie Kiiza has praised parliament for enacting laws and supporting organisations like the Uganda Parliamentary women association and the committee on gender based in parliament that have played a big role in making policies which are vital in protecting women and the girl child.

 

Meanwhile Justice David Batema the senior resident judje Mukono high court says that judiciary has tried it’s best to provide social justice to the victims however in the due course witnesses who are supposed to provide evidence withdraw the cases which leaves the perpetrators  un touched.
