The Commonwealth Secretary General, Rt. Hon Patricia Scotland has called for consolidated economic ties amongst Commonwealth member states in order to harness trade opportunities.

Scotland notes that there is need to harmonise laws within the Commonwealth member states for purposes of doing business especially arising from the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic.

She made the remarks during a meeting with the Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Amelia Kyambadde at the Ministry of Trade offices in Kampala adding that Commonwealth Secretariat was committed to providing the requisite support to the member states in the process of recovery from the effects of the pandemic.

Minister Kyambadde said connectivity between Uganda and the Commonwealth member states was key to enhancing trade opportunities.

The Minister and the Secretary General discussed other areas of intervention including among others: Youth empowerment through skilling and exposure through exchange visits within member states, etc.; business to business connectivity between Uganda and other Commonwealth member states through exchanging business delegations, etc.; development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Climate change and post COVID 19 challenges.
