Parliament has continued to trim the number of legislatures to be sitting in the plenary each day from 200 members to 100 MPs in a move to reduce the risk of catching the Ebola disease.

Recently, Parliament resolved only 200 of the over 500 members to sit in plenary each day.

Now, the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among while issuing guidelines for the prevention of the spread of Ebola virus disease in the premises of parliament resumed a must mask wearing by every individual accessing parliament.

Among other guidelines issued include hand washing, temperature check-up and restriction of unnecessary visitors at parliament.

Speaker Among also directed the Information Communication Technology -ICT department to enable MPs participate in parliamentary sessions virtually through their IPADs.

Before, Speaker Among met the Deputy Inspector General of Police –D/IGP Maj. Gen Tumusiime Katsigazi to find a solution on the increased incidents of road carnage mostly caused by the boda bodas in Uganda.

The meeting was convened following the release of a CCTV video by police showing a number of accidents involving boda-bodas in the month of October 2022.

On this note, Among urged police to find long-term solutions against road carnage, through tightening enforcement and traffic guidelines on errant road users.

Boda boda accidents remain the largest contributor of fatal accidents, in which at least 1,900 persons die annually, according to the 2021 Annual Crime and Traffic and Road Safety report.
