The opposition in parliament has strongly opposed the likely plans of the government to subject some parts of the country under lockdown.

According to the Members of Parliament, the districts of Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono are likely to be locked down as a preventive measure to stop the spread of Ebola virus.

Recently, the Health Ministry challenged rumours that were fuelling fear among the people of Kampala and Wakiso districts about the possible lockdown.

Addressing journalists at parliament, the Shadow Minister for Health Dr. Timothy Batuwa said that the lockdown is not the main solution of containing Ebola but rather sensitizing the masses and providing personal protective equipment to medical workers should be empowered.

The Shadow Minister for Information Joyce Bagala who is also the Mityana District Woman MP urged locals in the affected areas to stop exhuming dead bodies in the guise of performing rituals and witchcraft and running to churches for healing once they fall sick instead inform the authorities for help of any suspicion.

Apparently, Uganda has registered 129 accumulative cases of Ebola, 37 deaths and 43 recoveries mainly in districts of Kassanda and Mubende.

A total of 1,656 contacts are actively being followed-up in ten districts, follow-up rate in the past 24 hours was 88%.
