Cabinet has approved that in the next 11th Parliament every district and city is to have one women representative.

 

The minister for justice and constitutional affairs Prof Ephraim Kamuntu said today while briefing media on issues of representation of the elderly and women district members of Parliament.

 

Kamuntu said that the Constitution provides for a woman representative for every district and now that Uganda has got 7 new cities each has to get a woman representative in Parliament.

 

Kamuntu added that there will also be members directly elected members to represent constituencies and currently they are 296 in number but the  amendments in Parliament that call for creation of more 15 constituencies might increase this number if approved.

 

He adds that the army will still be represented by 10 members, workers, youth, persons with disabilities and older persons will each group have 5 representatives in parliament.
