The East African Court of Justice has dismissed with costs consolidated cases filed by seven opposition leaning politicians challenging the removal of the Presidential age limit law from the Ugandan constitution.

The cases have been dismissed by a panel of three justices who include the principal judge Monicah Mugyenyi, Justice Dr. Peter Nyawello and Charles Nyachae on grounds that the lawyers of the petitioners who include Don Deya and Nelson Ndeki told court that they were withdrawing from the case because their clients have never given them further instructions to proceed and neither have they filed any evidence in the case before court.

The politicians are: Winfred Kiiza the Kasese District Woman MP, John Baptist Nambeshe the Manjiya County MP, Gerald Karuhanga of Ntungamo Municipality, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda the Kira Municipality MP, Betty Nambooze the Mukono Municipality MP, Alice Asianut Alaso the former Woman MP for Serere District and a Woman’s Rights Activist Irene Ovonji Odida.

The petitioners had run to the East African Court of Justice challenging the removal of the presidential age limit from the Ugandan constitution.

It’s now Male Mabirizi left challenging the removal of article 102(b) that put a cap on the age of candidates vying for the presidency.
