The Democratic Party (DP) Women League has rallied parliament to enact a law allowing women to be paid for home work as a way of empowering them economically.

Almost half of the married women in Uganda do domestic work where they are hardly appreciated or receive any sum of money equivalent to their contribution rendering them power and backward.

During a media briefing at their headquarters in Kampala, Aisha Waligo the party Women League president said the women in Uganda still face challenges such as poverty, inequality among others despite government’s interventions to alleviate such challenges through its programs.

Waligo further says the solution for this should be a mandatory payment to housewives since women have not benefited much from the government programs due to bureaucratic tendencies.

The complicated process to access government support or money renders them incapacitated economically hence urging government to establish programs specifically targeting women such UWEP whose conditions are not all that complicated.
