The Democratic Party-DP challenges Parliament to block the proposed Supplementary Budget for State House until they account for the funds they were given in the 2022/2023 financial year budget.

This follows yesterday’s presentation by the Finance State Minister Henry Musasizi of a supplementary budget of 3.5 trillion shillings to Parliament for approval.

According to its breakdown, the State House is to take the lion’s share of the requested funds tagged under classified expenditure amounting to 485 billion shillings.

Of this, 100 billion shillings was spent already and now requires retrospective approval by Parliament.

While addressing journalists at the DP headquarters in Kampala, Ismail Kiirya, the DP acting Spokesperson said that unless Parliament doesn’t respect Ugandans, this money is not called for at this moment of economic hardships the country is currently facing.

Kiirya adds that it would have made sense if the funds were being requested by the Education and Health sectors, because they are in a dire state compared to State House.
