The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa has disclosed secrets about the declining funding of the children programs in the national budget.

According to Tayebwa, this financial year had the lowest funding budget of 572 billion shillings in the last seven years, citing the previous budget of 2022/2023 which had 1.6 billion shillings finance allocations for children.

While opening the High Level Policy makers Engagement Forum on Financing for Young People in Kampala today Tayebwa challenged the forum to review the previous priorities been pushed for children as the main agenda.

He further tasked the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development which is responsible for Children affairs and the Parliamentary Forum on Children to ensure analyses are conducted immediately once budget estimates are released so that finance allocation on children doesn’t go down beyond 1 trillion shillings in the next financial years.

Tayebwa also expressed his concern over the community’s abandonment of responsibility of nurturing the children which has contributed to the moral decadence in the society.

The Deputy Speaker further called on the line ministry to regulate the digital exposure of children related materials which he says contain toxic content against the children.
