The Parliamentary Forum on Children has tasked the Ministry of Health to provide a list of laboratories certified to conduct Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) tests in the country.

The Forum Chairperson who is also the Woman Member of Parliament for Namayingo District, Margaret Makoha says the list will control the mushrooming clinics that are conducting and releasing fake DNA test results which have left children’s rights violated.

This comes after Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa yesterday directed the government to come up with a regulatory framework to guide and monitor DNA tests due to the mayhem they are having in families.

Now, speaking to the journalists in Kampala during the High level policy makers’ engagement on financing for young people, Makoha noted that children have lost their education, chased away from families and also traumatized after the negative DNA tests which some of them thought to be faked.

She also backs the Deputy Speaker’s proposal of regulating the clinics conducting DNA tests and also urges the married couples to be faithful to their partners and avoid adulteration that later causes such mayhem in the family.

According to reliable sources, the Ministry of Health through the Director General Health Services Dr Daniel Kyabayinze summoned the key stakeholders for a meeting to discuss on how to streamline the issues of DNA paternity testing so that they mitigate the negative consequences to the society.
