The former Luweero district woman member of parliament Brenda Nabukenya has lost the court election petition before the court of appeal where she had sought court to overturn the election of the NRM’S Lillian Nakate over election irregularities.

Three judges of the Court of Appeal led by the deputy chief justice Steven Kavuma, Paul Mugamba and Alfonsi Dollo concurred with Nakate that Nabukenya failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that there was voter bribery and election malpractices during the elections overturning the High Court judge David Batema’s judgment in which he had ordered for fresh elections.

The judges pointed out that Nabukenya’s claim that Galikwoleka polling station was taken over by hooligans who forced the presiding officer to vacate the station, was not fully proven and in the case of St. Kizito polling station where Nabukenya claimed to have won, the final results gave Nakate a straight victory contrary to Nabukenya’s claims.

The judges ordered Nabukenya to pay Nakate’s costs from both the lower court as well as Court of Appeal.

Nakate did not make any comment about the judgment but Nabukenya conceded defeat confirming her readiness to pay all the costs.
