The President of the Opposition National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party Joseph Kabuleta has predicted that the planned first family rule might come to pass once change seeking forces don’t unite to resist it.

President Museveni, last week promoted his son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to the position of Chief of Defense Forces-CDF, amidst a minor cabinet reshuffle in which five ministers were sacked.

During the weekly party press conference in Rubaga on Monday, Kabuleta said that the appointment of Gen. Kainerugaba to head of the army raises concerns that President Museveni is grooming him for the presidency which the opposition would have focused on in their strategies but are instead fighting for leadership posts within their parties.

Kabuleta says resisting this plan is simple because even within the ruling NRM party there are members who are against it, hence the need for the opposition to wake up, reorganize and block this plan.

In a related development, the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party says that the promotion of President Museveni’s son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to Chief of Defense Forces-CDF is a clear indication that the long anticipated succession plan is taking shape.

Speaking to the press at the FDC party headquarters at Najjanankumbi, the deputy Secretary for Publicity and Documentation, Walid Mulindwa Lubega noted that Uganda is now under the operation of a single family with Museveni being the President and his wife Janet Kataha Museveni as Education Minister.

Lubega further cites that President Museveni’s young brother Gen. Salim Saleh Akandwanaho is Senior Presidential Advisor on Military Matters, his son-in-law Odrek Rwabwogo as the Special Presidential Advisor, and now his son Gen. Kainerugaba as CDF.

He adds that they are alarmed by President Museveni’s ongoing reduction of cabinet influence, demonstrated by the retention of positions for his allies and the introduction of new members said to be loyal to his son, hence widening the ever increasing burden on the taxpayers.
