The Uganda Revenue Authority URA has launched a  tax payers appreciation week where those who have consistently fulfilled their tax obligations are recognized and awarded for their exceptional performance.

In her speech as the guest of honour the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja encouraged URA officials to work towards promoting effective services delivery to Ugandans.

Once people are certicified with the services they will comply with all the tax requirements and obligations for the state to raise revenue it will be able to fulfill her responsibility of providing services for growth and development of the country.

The Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasaija commended URA for her progressive achievement in collecting revenues that is increasing every year helping them for better planning and allocation of funds in various sectors.

This year’s appreciation week the 17th of the kind is under the theme  “Celebrating the Economic Heroes of Uganda”.

In his opening remarks the Commissioner General John Musinguzi has said that because of the innovations, and introduction of new systems has simplified tax payment and easier to everyone, plus the increasing relationship with tax payers, tax collection has become simple.

Coca Cola Beverages has been crowned as the outstanding tax payer of the year with Shs 3.2 trillion, followed by Chopa gaming and Bank of Baroda.

Ankole diocesan bishop Rev. Associate Prof Sheldon Mwesigye is one of those who have won the Commissioner General’s award.
