The Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo has appealed to the government to avail funds to the Electoral Commission to conduct civic education.

He disclosed this after swearing in the EC chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama and other commissioners at the High Court saying that civic education is still a challenge and to ensure that Ugandans know about electoral process mass sensitization should be carried out now before the 2026 general elections.

He advised members of the commission to never fear to do what the law empowers them to do.

Justice Byabakama assured Ugandans of a free and fair election come 2026 general elections.

The Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao revealed that he is still engaging the cabinet to enact a law that allows electronic voting and ensures that presiding officers wear body cameras as they execute their work.

Mao also vowed to defend the judiciary against any irresponsible criticism.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni re-appointed Justice Simon Byabakama, Hajjat Aisha Lubega, and Stephen Tashobya, while the newly appointed individuals include James Peter Emorut, Dr. Simba Ssali Kayunga, a lecturer in Political Science and Public Administration at Makerere University, Anthony Okello, a former Member of Parliament for Kyoga County, and Caroline Bainamaryo who are to serve for a term of seven years in office.
