The Catholic Communicators have expressed their worries over the increasing circulation of fake news specifically on social media which they say is killing the journalism profession.

These communicators are currently in their annual Communication meeting in Nebbi Diocese.

Communicators lead by the Chairman Social Communication Commission (SCC) of the Catholic Church also the Bishop of Lira diocese Rt. Rev. Joseph Franzelli, believe that people who use social media to spread fake news are persistently misleading the community, causing insecurity in the country.

Now, they propose that there is need for concerned authorities, joint professional communicators among other stake holders to come up with strategies of controlling social media to avoid fake news circulation and protect the image of the media industry.

The Coordinator for Social Communications office Jinja Diocese, Fr. Paul Musana supported the resolutions and urged the catholic communicators to live by examples so that bear a good reputation presented to a wider audience.
