Seven girls out of the 154 victims that were rescued from the Usafi mosque in Kisenyi-Kampala 10 days ago after a Police raid have been discovered pregnant.

This was revealed by the deputy police spokesperson Patrick Onyango at the Uganda Media Centre earlier today, saying that 11 girls aged between 13 to 15 years also complained of defilement by the suspects.

He also notes that so far 36 suspects have been arrested in connection to the Susan Magara kidnap and murder case thus revealing that the investigations are beyond the Magara case since the victims have also complained of kidnap, human trafficking, and sexual harassment among others.

He said that the suspects have not been presented to courts of law within the stipulated 48 hours because investigating officers have discovered more crimes that the suspects were involved in.

In the briefing, the deputy spokesperson of the UPDF Deo Akiki told journalists that JATT which is the army wing in charge of detecting terrorism is involved in operations in investigation of Usafi Mosque to establish if there is any connection linking the suspects to terrorism.

Suspects in custody include people with different nationalities like Burundi and Congo.

Akiki said that terrorism has cross boarder linkages and the army is very aware that ADF has bases near Congo and Al-Shabab operates from across the region.

He also requested for more time to enable agencies finalize investigations within this week.
