The Apostolic Administrator of Kampala Archdiocese Rt. Rev. Paul Ssemogerere believes that Uganda can overcome Covid-19 and other challenges affecting the common citizens like murders, corruption, violence among others once the public commit to prayers through the intercession of  Mother Mary.

Bishop Ssemwogerere says that this the rightful period for Christians to renew their lives and work through the intercession of Mother Mary who can only guide in order to achieve a meaningful life.

He said this as the Catholic Church in Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate 100 years of existence of the Legion of Mary in a Mass marking the centenary of the influential lay association held at Nsambya Parish this Tuesday.

Bishop Ssemogerere who is also the ordinary of Kasana Luweero Diocese further commended legionaries for their services but also reminded them of self examination over the values of the movement that center on service for others.

The Legion of Mary is an international association of over 10 million members within the Roman Catholic Church who serve it on a voluntary basis. It was founded in Dublin, as a Roman Catholic Marian Movement by the layman and civil servant Frank Duff on September 7th, 1921.

Legion of Mary was introduced in Uganda on July 22nd, 1938 by Eldel Quinn through Rev.Fr. V.G Minderop who was the Apostolic Administrator of the Bishop of Nsambya by then and currently the movement is found in all the dioceses of Uganda.

This Tuesday, during the celebrations they unveiled their new theme; “Remember, Renew and Recruit” before the Bishop.

Meanwhile, Bishop Ssemogerere has used the same occasion to extend condolences to the Eastern Orthodox Church of Alexandria in Uganda for the passing of Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga, the Archbishop of the Orthodox Church in Uganda.
