The Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya Makindye West legislature Allan Ssewanyana have been arraigned in court and charged with four counts related to the killings in Greater Masaka region.

The two opposition MPs of the National Unity Platform -NUP were last week summoned to record statements over the murders and they were interrogated yesterday but when again appeared this Tuesday afternoon, they were instead arrested and detained at Masaka Police Station.

Later, they were arraigned before the Masaka Magistrates Court along with four others and charged with four counts; three for murder and one of attempted murder.

The MPs and the four other suspects were remanded to Kitalya Prison, until September 15, 2021.

Greater Masaka region has experienced gruesome murders where at least 27 people have been killed by machetes wilding assailants who to date are not known although there are some suspects who have been presented before court and remanded.

Earlier on, Ssegirinya had had a celebration where the High Court agreed with the Electoral Commission and resolved to dismiss the petition in which the former Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Sulaiman Kidandala was challenging the MP’s victory for Kawempe North parliamentary seat.

The petition was dismissed by the High Court Judge, Justice Henrietta Wolayo on grounds of lack of service to the respondent Ssegirinya by the time he was in prison at Kitalya.
