The Chief Adviser for the Kabaka of Buganda Apollo Makubuya has advised Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to institute a committee that will come with a list of indigenous names for the streets in Kampala that are known to Ugandans.
He revealed this before the council sitting at city hall noting that names such as Dewton Streets, Colville Street and Lugard Street among others are colonial names that have no attachment to Ugandans and the primary benefiters of the city.
The KCCA Director for Planning and Infrastructure Justus Akankwasa embraced the idea adding that with the help of the guidelines on how the renaming process should be done, they can change them although it comes with a budgetary implications and a lot of formalities up to the International level including the Google search engine.
