The President of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine has been violently arrested by security operatives moments after his nomination at the Kyambogo University grounds where the Electoral Commission has concluded the presidential nominations.

Kyagulanyi who doubles as the Kyadondo East Member of Parliament was arrested and whisked to his home in Magere in Wakiso district as chaos ensued in an exchange between security operatives and his security detail.

Kyagulanyi had just addressed journalists following his nomination today in what was almost a launch of his manifesto where he has challenged President Museveni and the Electoral Commission to respect the 2021 general election.

President Museveni moments after his nomination yesterday warned anyone thinking of threatening violence and disturbing the peace of Uganda through working with foreign powers. He says that no one can fight Uganda and no one can intimidate Ugandans.

Kyagulanyi who wants to unseat President Museveni through the 2021 election says he’s contesting for the highest office in Uganda so as to represent the oppressed, the weak, the poor and the downtrodden.

He says he was launching a critical phase of the struggle to liberate Uganda from a dictatorship that has crippled the country’s progress for close to four decades.

Kyagulanyi said his salient areas hinge on transforming Uganda into a country that can support its people with available resources that are evenly shared by all.

He says science and technology that are catalysts to development must be prioritized, each sub-region will have innovation hubs with first class brains kept around to help in the struggle to development. On the issue of emoluments of armed forces; the police, the army and the prison warders, Kyagulanyi says their pay will be raised to a minimum of UGX 1 million.

Kyagulanyi has warned the Electoral Commission headed by Justice Simon Byabakama to respect the 2021elections to avoid scenarios that forced President Museveni to go to the bush in 1980’s.

Kyagulanyi, 38 is to tassel it out with the NRM’s Yoweri Museveni, 76, who is standing for the 6th time since he came to power in 1986,  Mugisha Muntu, 62, of the Alliance for National Transformation, independent candidate Henry Tumukunde, 61, all bush war fighters who were trained by President Museveni in 1981.

Others are Patrick Odoi Amuriat of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and other Independents; Norbert Mao of the Democratic Change DP, Willy Mayambala, Fred Mwesigye and Joseph Kiiza Kabuleta plus the two independent aspirants John Katumba and Nancy Linda Kalembe who were deferred yesterday for not paying a non refundable fee of UGX 20 million in the bank have all been nominated.

This has brought the number of candidates for the presidential seat to 11.
