Catholics in Kampala have this afternoon flocked at the Lubaga Cathedral to attend the requiem mass for the late Emeritus Archbishop of Tororo His Grace Denis Kiwanuka Lote who passed away on Sunday at Nsambya hospital.

The fallen Archbishop emeritus’s body has been brought in a casket decorated in the Catholic tradition as prescribed by the liturgical orders, covered with a white dress, a chalice placed on top and a cross to represent the items he has been using in his priesthood life time.

Leading the requiem Mass, the Chairman of the Uganda Episcopal Conference –UEC Bishop Joseph Antony Zziwa has described the late Kiwanuka Lote as a Bishop and a priest that has served in all the priesthood positions of the church, right from the curate.

He says that the Late was able to serve as a parish priest shortly after his priesthood ordination, and later became a treasurer of the diocese, pastoral coordinator, a rector in the seminary and the chairman on the various boards of schools which gave him rich experience during his service.

Bishop Zziwa further testifies that in Kiwanuka’s 57 years of priesthood of his 84years of life, he never paused as authoritative but rather simple, humorous and peace lover who untied people in the Kotido in Karamoja sub region and Tororo dioceses where he served as a bishop and Archbishop.

The late has been credited for his role in promoting quality education and health and the fight for the preservation of the environment that was described by Pope Francis the Mother Earth in his Encyclical Laudato si in 2015.
