Namirembe Diocese has officially received the Bishop elect Canon Moses Banja, at a brief ceremony organised by the diocesan administration.

 

He is to be installed this Sunday 10th/December/2023 at St James Cathedral Namirembe.

 

Bishop Moses Banja will be replacing Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira who has served as a Bishop of Namirembe Diocese for the last 14 years.

 

Bishop Luwalira was consecrated and enthroned for the position in May 2009 and he is to retire on 10th December this year after turning 64 years of age.

 

While speaking to congregation that welcomed the bishop elect at Namirembe Canon Moses Banja thanked the faithful for the worm welcome and urged them to continue praying for him to execute his new assignment well.

 

Meanwhile the outgoing Bishop of Namirembe Diocese Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira has thanked the faithful who have helped him to save the protestant community for the last 14 days.

 

On November 20th 2023, the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda elected Archdeacon of Luzira Archdeaconry, Venerable Canon Moses Banja to replace the outgoing Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Rt Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira.

 

In a statement signed by the Acting Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, Baalam Muheebwa, the House of Bishop replaced Luwalira with Banja in a sitting at St Stephen’s Cathedral Naluwerere in East Busoga Diocese on 20th November 2023.

 

Ven Canon Moses Banja was born on 20th October 1964 in Nakabugo Bbira, Busiro. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour on 3rd December 1989. He was ordained in 1996 and priested in 1998.

 

He is married to Rev. Canon. Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja and God has blessed them with three Children.

 

Ven Canon Moses Banja holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Makerere University.
