The former President of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change-FDC and the leader of the People’s Front for Transition –PFT Dr. Kiiza Besigye has been arrested in Kampala and later detained at Naggalama Police station in Mukono district.

Besigye had earlier in the day beat tight police security at his home in Kasangati, Wakiso district to storm the city centre only to be intercepted  at Arua Park by the security personnel.

His vehicle was surrounded by police and later towed to the Central Police Station in Kampala from where he was moved to Naggalama Police Station where he is currently detained, according to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.

His arrest was the fourth time since the start of this month when he declared protests to challenge the government to wake up and deal with the skyrocketing prices of most commodities in the country.

President Museveni on Sunday evening address to the nation on the economic situation in the country said it would be suicidal if government allowed subsidies or waived taxes now because it’s the foundation for supporting national operations.

Commodity prices have increased, a situation which has been largely attributed to the Russia-Ukraine war that saw fuel and gas prices go up.
