University students have condemned the government for failing to address the issues of high prices of essential commodities.

During a joint press conference on Tuesday in Kampala, students from different universities say that they are dissatisfied with the move by Members of Parliament to increase their salaries at a time when the country is stressed with economic demands after the Covid-19 shutdowns.

They were responding to the President’s address on the economic situation held on Sunday May 22.

Edrine Bbosa, the Makerere University Guild Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs says that come May 30, 2022 universities will be opening for the first semester but parents or guardians can hardly afford basic necessities including tuition meaning many students will not be able to return for studies.

Bbosa says it’s sad for the public to suffer with high commodity prices when rumors have it that MPs have started to demand for an increase of their salaries.

He has revealed that as students’ leaders they are not going to look on as their fellow students fail to attain education.
