Security agencies have cautioned Ugandans to avoid crowded places during this festive season due to the double threats; COVID-19 and terrorism in the country.

In early November, Kampala city experienced double suicide bombings that left seven people dead and 33 injured while at the beginning of this December, Ministry of Health registered first seven cases of Omicron, a new Covid-19 variant.

Addressing journalists at Naguru, Fred Enanga the Police Spokesperson noted that it’s worrying to see people behaving in a careless manner without minding about the two major national threats.

He however cautions the public especially those who can’t avoid crowded places like churches, markets, shopping malls among others to remain vigilant and observe the Standard Operating Procedures –SOPs since terror threats and Covid-19 still exist.

Meanwhile, the Territorial Police Commanders have been directed by the leadership of the Uganda Police Force to reinforce the COVID-19 guidelines operations especially the curfew.

On the side of road safety, Over 21600 traffic offenders have so far been arrested in the ongoing operations against traffic guidelines violators during this festive season.

Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic and Road Safety Police Spokesperson say these suspects were arrested in two weeks during the operations conducted between December 1st and 19th.
