Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has reminded Ugandans to take SOPs issued by the Ministry of Health against the spread of Covid-19 seriously because the disease is real and still around.

 

He disclosed this during the Requiem mass at Lubaga Cathedral on January 26, 2021, thanking God for the life of Rev. Fr. Edward Ssonko who succumbed to Covid-19 at Kisubi hospital on January 23, 2021.

 

Dr. Lwanga described Fr. Ssonko as a talented man of God who utilized his talents to the fullest.  “Fr. Ssonko has exceptionally used all his gifts to help others, composed and played music, taught Latin language on top  of evangelizing the peoples.

 

Fr. Ssonko was born in 1959 in Ggoli, Ggoli Parish Kampala Archdiocese studied at Ggoli Primary School, Kanyike Primary School and Lubaga Senior Secondary School before joining St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary Ggaba for his Philosophy and Theology and was ordained a priest on September 21, 1986 by Cardinal Emmanuel Nsubuga at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Lubaga.

 

He was appointed a teacher to Kisubi Seminary and in 1990 he went for further studies in Rome until 1998 where he obtained a Licentiate in the Latin Language and PhD in the Latin Language. On return he went back to Kisubi Seminary while doubling as the head of the department of liturgy and sacred music in Kampala Archdiocese from 2001 to 2017. He has also been the Chaplain of the Brothers of Christian Instruction Scholasticate.

 

Fr. Ssonko has been the head of the examining body of Latin in Uganda.

 

Meanwhile, Dr. Lwanga has reminded Christians always to go for medical check-up mostly for Covid-19 from recognized healthy facilities to help in combating the spread of Coronavirus in Uganda.

 

He was been buried at Kisubi Seminary.
