The Archbishop of church of Uganda Dr. Steven Kazimba Mugalu has welcomed the presidential decision that opened the churches for worshipers to meet their God but with advise to reconsider the number that was set at 70.

President Yoweri Museveni in his special address on the latest about the country’s stand on the control of the spread of Covid-19 and its effects where he okayed re-opening of schools and intuitions of higher learning to candidates and finalists totaling to least 1.2 million learners out of 15 million, airports to tourists, opening of the boarder districts and places of worship saying restrictions put on some of those places was to control the spread of Covid-19.

However Dr. Kazimba told journalists at his residence at Namirembe that says some Cathedrals are big enough to accommodate more than 70 people in full observance of the Standard Operating Procedures SOPs, so the restriction on the number could have been revised to as well include the children because all people are yearning for God and counsel.

President Museveni said they had decided to reopen schools for candidate classes for Primary Seven, S4, S6, finalists in tertiary institutions and finalists in Universities on October 15, 2020, so long as the schools follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the students will be safe.

According to him, the cost of waiting further will be higher than reopening due to the jam created by the process of transition.

Although he said that deferment of classes for finalists would be costly however many questions remain what will happen to the rest of the pupils and students who were in lower classes and how they will be promoted to other classes.

One of the Educationist Dr. Henry Busuulwa who is also the Chairman Education Board in Lugazi diocese says the National Council for higher education and National Curriculum Development center have to do a lot of guidance together with the ministry of education to bridge the gaps.

The Presidential address came after the country had reached 63 deaths of Ugandans who succumbed to Covid-19 of the total 6,287 of Ugandans who have been infected since March this year.
