More than 100 residents from a number of landing sites on Lake Kyoga in Nakasongola district, are still sleeping in the cold, months after rising water levels displaced them.

Over four months ago, torrential rains saw a record rise in water levels and displaced families in Kikaraganya, Kikarangenye, Lwampanga among other landing sites.

The affected, sought shelter under classroom blocks from the nearby schools since they were still closed in the wake of Covid-19.

Now, Sam Kigula the Nakasongola district chairman, says authorities, have to devise means to rescue the populace since even the schools are going to resume.

Among the immediate facilities are shelter the district plans to buy tarpaulins, a health facility at least of level of HC2, latrines and a borehole to ease the access to clean.

In May, June and July this year water levels almost in all water bodies in Uganda increased causing floods, displaced people, destroyed homes and crops.
