The Ministry of Education and Sports has shifted its focus of Covid-19 vaccination exercise to Tertiary Education Students of 18 years and above by the end of December 2021.

Earlier, the campaign had concentrated on teachers and support staff in an effort to see the re-opening of schools across the country.

Now, addressing the Journalists at the Uganda media center in Kampala today, Dr. Denis Mugimba the Education Ministry Spokesperson said that the vaccination exercise for students in Tertiary education institutions was effected through the September 17, 2021 letter from the Director General Health Services in the Ministry of Health directing local authorities to prioritize vaccinating students.

Mugimba says that the list of tertiary education students aged 18years and above is under compilation by the Ministry of Health and soon will be released for guidance.

However, a total of at least 269,455 (49%) teachers have received the first dose by today Monday morning which is an improvement of  6% from previous week’s  where 239,000 teachers had been vaccinated according to Dr. Mugimba.

A total of 96,653 (18%) of teachers have received their second dose of Covid-19 vaccine and it’s from this that Mugimba urged for more vaccination response by the teachers to enable schools re-opened.
