More than 800 drivers were arrested in various traffic operations which were conducted against those driving under the influence of alcohol and beyond the prescribed speed limit on Entebbe Express Highway.
According to Micheal Kananura the traffic police spokesperson, the 857 drivers were arrested in the FIKA Salama Extra operations conducted along Entebbe Express Highway and on various roads within Kampala Metropolitan policing Area in the month of September this year.
Kananura says that all the arrested drivers were issued with Express Penalty Scheme (EPS) tickets of two hundred thousand shillings before they were released.
He further revealed that a total of 569 motorcycles were impounded in the operations that were conducted last week on riders without requirements that permits them to ride on the road.
In the same vein, about 71 people died in 281 road crashes that occurred across the country last week, while 287 people were left nursing wounds.
