The Traffic and Road Safety Police has warned to commence an operation against motor vehicles with a pair of emergency warning signs also called emergency triangular reflectors starting this week.

Michael Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson says that vehicles without these emergency reflectors will be impounded and drivers arrested and taken to court which also attracts an express fine of 100,000 shillings or a one year imprisonment or both.

In December last year, Traffic Police directed all drivers to get a pair of reflector triangles for use in case of their breakdown.

Kananura says that once a vehicle breaks down, these triangular reflectors should be placed at least 45 meters away from the car on both sides to make a signal to other drivers.

According to the 2020 Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) report, Uganda is estimated to have over 2.3 million cars, the number that could have increased in the past three years.
