The Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Immigration department has warned to conduct an operation to retrieve about 10,000 passports confiscated by Labour Exporting companies.

Simon Peter Mundeyi, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Spokesperson says that these passports are for the Ugandans who these companies had promised job placements in the Middle East.

This is after more than 100 ladies reported to the ministry claiming for their passports that are held by some of these companies which failed to meet their promise of getting those jobs.

Mundeyi says that they also established that there is one company which is holding 2000 passports it has been collecting from the young girls between the age of 20 and 22 years who applied for external labour through them.

He however cautioned the companies in possession of these passports that it’s illegal to hold a passport which belongs to an individual and the government of Uganda.

Meanwhile, the Internal Affairs Ministry is also stuck with over 40,000 passports in their stores that haven’t been picked by their owners.
