A total of 805 foot pilgrims from the Lira Catholic Diocese arrived at St. Francis of Assisi Matugga Parish on Tuesday afternoon.

The group led by one Francis Odokobong says they set off from Lira on 19th May, 2023 and the journey cost them 11 days to reach Matugga.

He explains that they moved along with at least 13 children and the eldest Woman is 89 years of age while the Man is 85 years old.

On their way they have experienced mainly fatigue that led to swollen legs and feet and thirst, but they are grateful for the generosity extended to them from the parishes where they have had stopovers for resting.

In a related development a total of over 5000 foot pilgrims from Jinja the animating diocese are any time from now expected to arrive at St. Paul’s Parish Mukono.

They set off on Sunday morning from Lubaga Cathedral in Jinja flagged off by the ordinary Rt. Rev. Charles Martin Wamika.

At the Catholic Shrine Namugongo, the final preparatory meetings for the 3rd June Uganda Martyrs day celebrations have commenced by all the nine special committees under the coordination of the Pastoral Coordinator of Jinja diocese, Fr. Paul Okelo.

The final meeting involves rehearsals for all the members of the committees.

The deployments of Security personnel both covert and non covert have been intensified and security checks every other minute.
