A new report on the state of democracy in Uganda has shown that 34% of Ugandans perceive that a full supply of democracy has declined in Uganda.

The survey was conducted by Afro-Barometer in partnership with the Inter Party Organization for Dialogue-IPOD.

Afro-Barometer is a pan African, non partisan survey research network that provides reliable data on the African experiences and evaluation of democracy, governance and quality of life.

According to Francis Kibirige, the lead researcher from Hatchile Consult, the national partners’ research network in Uganda was carried out between January 7th and 25th 2022 in 300 areas across 119 districts, with an oversample of 13 villages (104 interviews) in each of the 11 new cities.

He however added that the same survey established that most Ugandans showed strong commitment to democracy but at the same time were increasingly dissatisfied with the way their democracy is working.
