Over 25,000 participants are expected to participate in the 2022 Rotary Cancer Run scheduled on Sunday the 4th September/2022  to raise at least UGX 13 billion to support the  purchase and installation of a radioactivity Machine at Nsambya Hospital Cancer Unit.

 

This has been revealed by Abel Muweezi, a member of Rotary and  club in Uganda during the traffic police press conference to release the traffic guidelines for the Rotary Cancer Run held at Central police station (CPS) in Kampala today.

 

Muweezi said that cancer has become one of the top most killer disease in Uganda and world at large hence the need for efforts to curb the problem which is the reason why rotary club came out with this initiative to create awareness as well as collecting funds to support the construction of cancer center in Nsambya.

 

The Sunday Cancer Run will be flagged off by the president Rotary international Janifer Jones and participants will participate in the 21km, 10km and 5km categories starting at 6am and already Centenary bank on of the great partners in the cause has contributed UGX 150 million.

 

He called upon the public to support the run to fight cancer in Uganda.

 

Meanwhile the police traffic commander Kampal Metropolitan Police (KMP) Nsereko Kawuma says police is ready to support the run on Sunday and by 5am roads in some parts of lower and Upper Kololo will be closed for some time to allow runners to move safely and has cautioned drivers in places of Wampeewo round about, Jinja Rd, Nakasero road, Nakesero Hill, Kyadondo Rd, Garden City among others were participants are going to pass to be vigilant to avoid accidents.
