The Police in Gulu City West Policing Division have rounded up 13 people suspected to be part of a network of organized gangs behind a spate of crimes.

The suspects were arrested in an impromptu operation on Wednesday evening in Lacor trading center and Airfield Sub-ward in Bardege-Layibi Division.

The operation came just a day after unknown gunmen shot dead a soldier who operated a mobile money business in Lacor Trading Center on Tuesday evening.

The deceased identified as Bonny Ojok was reportedly shot in his stomach from his mobile money Kiosk and robbed of two mobile phones and an unspecified amount of money.

Aswa West Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong says some of the suspects arrested in the operation were found in possession of government stores comprising UPDF and police uniforms.

He says while they can’t conclude the suspects were behind Tuesday’s fatal shooting incident, they however suspect they could be a racket of organized youth outlaws due to the exhibits discovered.

Mudong says the suspects are undergoing interrogation and screening at the Gulu City West Policing Division before charges are preferred against them.

According to Mudong, the suspects comprise mainly youth commonly referred to as Aguu, who have been a security threat to people in the city and beyond.
