The expression of interest for the post of the speaker of parliament is gaining momentum with the members from the ruling National Resistance Movement -NRM lining up to formalize their interest from their offices at Plot 10 Kyadondo in Kampala district.

By press time, 13 NRM members had submitted their interests for the position of the speaker and these include;

The including, Deputy speaker Anita Among whose personal assistant Mary Athieno delivered the application, Minister of state for defense also West Budama Central Mp Jacob Oboth-Oboth, Deputy Attorney General and Kyaka County MP Jackson Kafuuzi, Dokolo South MP Felix Okot Ogong, Arua Central Area MP Atim Jackson, Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi, Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo, Okot John Amos from Agago district, Wakabi Pius from Hoima and Kagoma County also NRM Parliamentary caucus Spokesperson Alex Brandon Kintu.

Also Masindi district woman Dr. Florence Asiimwe Akiiki and Minister for Health also Lira city MP, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng have joined the race by submitting their applications of interest.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of the Ruling Party National chairman Tanga Odoi had earlier on urged members to show sense of mourning by not involving in processions while delivering their forms of interest.

 

Although all the above members have applied they await the decision of the NRM Central Executive Committee- CEC that is sitting on Wednesday March 23rd 2022 for approval of the candidate who will be the NRM’s flag bearer for that post.
