The Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament Asuman Basalirwa has submitted his formal bid to the opposition shadow cabinet to be endorsed to contest for the post of the Speaker of Parliament to replace the fallen Speaker Jacob Oulanya.
Speaking to reporters at parliament, Basalirwa says that his name is going to be forwarded to the opposition caucus for scrutiny among other opposition MPs that will express interest.
Basalirwa noted that he is hopeful that all opposition MPs will rally behind him since there will be a consensus among the opposition MPs.
The Acholi parliamentary group has endorsed the Kitgum Woman MP Lillian Aber to contest for the position of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Aber who was the National Youth Chairperson says that the people of Acholi need to have someone to replace Oulanya among the high ranking people in government.
The election of the Speaker of Parliament is set to take place on Friday March 25th 2022 at Kololo Ceremonial grounds under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice Alfonse Owinyi Dolo.
