Youth Members of Parliament under their umbrella the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Youth Affairs are demanding for an immediate apology from the government for failure to celebrate the international youth day meant for Friday August 12, 2022

This comes at a time when Uganda fails to join the rest of the world to mark the International Youth Day on August 12, 2022 with the national celebrations postponed to 26th this Month.

Addressing journalists at parliament, the Forum Chairperson Henry Boniface Okot who also doubles as the Youth MP for Northern Region noted that it’s a shame that in the whole world, it’s Uganda that has failed to commemorate the international youth day.

Okot noted that the decision to postpone the youth day celebrations shows that this government doesn’t prioritize youth matters and so they must apologize to all the young people in the country for taking such a decision without consulting the stakeholders.

Okot however lays out a couple of issues affecting youths that they need the government to address including poverty, unemployment, limited structured government support and policies for start-ups, science and technology-based innovations and initiatives that have the potential of transforming lives.
