The Workers Member of Parliament –MP Margret Rwobushaija Namubiru has appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to expedite the siging of the Markets Bill 2021 which aims at streamlining the administration of markets across the country.

 

The objective of the Bill is to reform the law relating to the establishment and control of markets in Uganda, to provide for the establishment and management of public and private markets.

 

The Markets Bill 2021 also seeks to provide a comprehensive legal framework to strengthen the regulation, management & administration of markets, to address the gaps and limitations that have been identified in the current law, as well as licensing the private markets and registration of markets and vendors using their national IDs.

 

Speaking to journalists at parliament, Margrate Rwobushaija who moved the bill as a private members bill noted that the bill if accented to by the president, will save the president from calls to intervene in market wrangles.

 

She also noted that the bill will save the people who operate in the markets from the daily charges as they will be required to pay for licenses.
