The Vice President Jessica Alupo has committed herself to ensure that St Lawrence University (SLAU) where she serves as a Chancellor receives a chatter before the 14th graduation ceremony.

She made this statement during the university’s 13th graduation ceremony at Rubaga division on Thursday where a total of 376 candidates conferred degrees and diplomas in different disciplines from four faculties of education, Art and social science, business management and Science and Technology.

In 2022, the government demanded 32 private universities including SLAU to acquire a charter within a period of one year or have their operational licenses revoked.

A charter status is the highest license from the universities’ regulator, only granted by the head of state.

Alupo says that she and the university management are doing everything possible to secure the charter within a shortest period of time before next year.

She further encouraged the graduates to leave their comfort zones and embrace available opportunities in the country to improve on their career for a brighter future.

She advised graduates to know the importance of maintaining a strong network of professional connections since they don’t only stop at providing advice but also solutions to the possible challenges.

Chancellor Alupo also called on the graduates to be ready to face obstacles ahead of them since it’s the gateway to success.

Ambrose Mukiibi Kibuuka who has been the keyNote Speaker advised graduates to make their gifts shine, ensure to strike a balance between ideal and practical approaches and ensure that they present ideas that add value at their place of work.

The vice chancellor of SLAU Prof. Charles Masaba urged graduates to portray the university’s good image and accept to learn from experiences, work place and above all be disciplined rather than fronting their beauty at the workplace.

Guests lit a candle in memory of SLAU founder late Professor Lawrence Mukiibi.
