Vendors and Hawkers who were evicted from the Kampala City streets, under their body the New Generation Traders Association Uganda –NGTAU have threatened to return on Tuesday February 22, accusing the government of failing to respond to their demands.

According to their association, they requested the government to allocate them with some streets in the city on which they could operate from including Allen road, Namirembe road, Rashid Khamis Road and Ssebaana among others but nothing has been done.

Addressing the Journalists in Kampala, John Kabanda the Chairperson the New Generation Traders Association Uganda says that they gave nine days ultimatum for the government to solve their issue but no response yet received.

When Radio Sapientia contacted the Kampala Capital City Authority –KCCA Spokesperson Juliet Bukirwa Muwanguzi, she said that they have been having stakeholders meeting with the top leadership of vendors and hawkers called the Kampala Hawkers and Vendors Federation and soon they are communicating the authority’s position.

Last month, following the January 16th deadline communicated by the Resident City Commissioner Hudu Hussein, the police and army were deployed in Kampala to block vendors and hawkers from doing the selling on the streets in a move to clean the city of unregulated businesses.
