As Uganda participates in this year’s Global Disability Summit 2022 in Norway, the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda –NUDIPU together with the East African Centre for Disability Law and Policy –CDLP have called upon the government to fast truck the implementation of the commitments that were made in 2018 UK Global Disability Summit.

Bumali Mpindi, the NUDIP Chairperson during a press conference at union headquarters in Bukoto- Kampala this Tuesday said that though there are some achievements made by the government since the 2018 summit in UK, there are commitments yet to be fulfilled including the finalization of the National ICT Policy of Persons with Disabilities with a cost action plan that hasn’t progressed up to now.

He says that the allocation of employment quotas to PWDs by the government and also the production and submission of annual reports to Parliament and Cabinet on the status of employment to Persons with disabilities for consideration and action haven’t been done.

Mpindi however, notes that the Gender Ministry should strengthen the coordination platform that was started with other ministries, departments and agencies to implement the commitments.

The Global Disability Summit 2022 commenced today 15th and runs up to 17th this month in Oslo, Norway aimed at advocating against the backdrop of increased inequality on disability rights on the global scene.
