In June this year, President Yoweri Museveni named a new unit to help fight corruption in Uganda despite the existence of the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) headed by Justice Irene Mulyagonja.

Speaking before the board of governors for Inter Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) today at Mengo, the Minister for Ethics and Integrity Fr. Simon Lokodo said that despite of government’s efforts to end corruption, 60 percent of the 32 trillion shillings invested by government is embezzled.

However, the IRCU Board Chairperson Msgr. Charles Kasibante says that there is a need to involve religious leaders and establish Anti Corruption Village committees that could monitor and report all corrupt officials.

The Deputy Inspector General of Government George Bamugemereire indicated that they receive over 3000 corruption cases annually which show the rate of risk for tax payers’ money.
