The Uganda People Defense forces have beefed up security on the Democratic Republic of Congo border in Zombo district following an attack by suspected Congolese on UPDF detach.

Last week on Friday, suspected Congolese believed to be members of the Cooperation for the Development of Congo (CODECO) who were 20 in number armed with guns, Machete and bows, attacked the UPDF detach in Zeu Sub county in Zombo districts where gun fire was exchanged and seven of the suspects were put out of action while others ran away and several weapons were recovered from the attackers but they left unspecified numbers of UPDF officers injured.

Brig Flavia Byekwaso, the UPDF Spokesperson led journalists at Police headquarters in Naguru today that they have deployed more soldiers in Zombo to ensure that no more incursions occur in the regions.

Meanwhile; Brig. Byekwaso has noted that they are on a man hunt of two fisher men identified as Augustine Byakutaaga and Charles Ruhinda who kidnapped a UPDF Marine soldier who was conducting patrol on Lake Victoria against illegal fishing and later dumped his body at Kyanjazi after strangling.

Relatedly, the army has commenced several disarmament operations in Karamoja to ensure that all the guns obtained by Karamajongs for cattle rustling are voluntarily handed over.
