The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on Tuesday killed 11 suspected ADF rebels who are believed to have killed two foreign tourists and a tour guide.

Last month, David Barlow, a UK national, Celia Geyer a South African, and their tour guide Eric Aryayi were killed inside Queen Elizabeth National Park by suspected ADF rebels.

Since then, the UPDF alongside Special Forces Command (SFC) have been on the hunt for killers.

It has emerged that UPDF Marine, SFC, and Mountain Brigade built on intelligence and deployed strategically at Kayanja Landing Site along Lake Edward. At around 7 pm, a boat carrying the suspected killers perhaps fleeing back to DRC was cornered with heavy fire leaving 11 of the suspects dead.

The UPDF Deputy Spokesperson Col Deo Akiiki has confirmed adding that the operations that led to the killers were commanded by Col Saula and Col Jet commanding the UPDF Marine and mountain brigade respectively.

At least 50 people have been killed in Kasese by ADF-linked groups between June and October this year.

The majority of the killed were students at Lhubiriha secondary school in Mpondwe town near the Uganda –DRC border.

President Yoweri Museveni has repeatedly said ADF camps in the DRC have been bombed using airstrikes and have chosen to flee to different parts of the country.
