The Uganda Peoples Defense Force –UPDF has assured the Congolese nationals that the Operation Shujaa won’t stop until the Allied Democratic Force –ADF rebels are eliminated in the Democratic Republic of Congo- DRC.

Operation Shujaa is a joint military mission between Uganda and DRC which began at the end of November 2021 to eliminate Allied Democratic Force (ADF) rebels and other subversive elements in Congo.

Last year, UPDF halted the operation after the Congolese nationals demonstrated against Uganda and Rwanda, mainly in the Eastern DRC commercial city of Goma on allegation of supporting M23 rebels whose fighters captured Congo-side Bunagana town following a lightning advance.

But later, Uganda resumed the operation in respect of securing peace in DRC and last month this very year, around a hundred civilians who were abducted by a rebel group in eastern Congo were rescued in a combined operation.

Maj. Bilal Yusuf Katamba, the UPDF Operation Shujaa Spokesperson says that the Overall Operation Commander of this Operation, Maj. Gen Dick Orom while on his routine military visits in the areas of Bulasi, Boga, Busio, and Chavi in North Kivu province and Ituri, assured Congolese nationals of protection until the rebels are eliminated.
