Unvaccinated health workers are likely to lose their jobs by next year, the Ministry of Health has said.

Currently, at least 140,000 health workers which accounts to 93 percent have been vaccinated out of the 150,000 health workers expected to receive the jabs

While responding to questions from health workers at the 27th Health Sector Joint Review Mission and Launch of the Emergency Medical Services Policy conference in Kampala today, Dr. Henry Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services in the Ministry of Health says that 70,000 health workers have received two jabs.

He says that given the working environment that is risky, unvaccinated health workers will be told to stay home for two to three weeks and once they continue to defy, they will later be considered to have absconded from work which is direct termination.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mwebesa reminds the public that the type of vaccines that are in the country currently are the best and safe, hence calling those yet to be vaccinated to go for their jabs.
