The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has given a green light to the two schools in Lubaga Division in Kampala whose pupils tested positive for Ebola to host their Primary Leaving Examinations -PLE sitting pupils at their campuses even though initially they had no centre numbers, in order to minimize movements amid the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the country.

A total of 5 pupils in Lubaga Division tested positive and are currently being monitored by the Ministry of Health.

While giving updates on the forthcoming PLE exams at the Uganda Media Center in Kampala Friday, Dan Odongo, the UNEB Executive Director said that these pupils are being monitored well and if they are able to write their exams, they will be allowed to do so.

Odongo has also disclosed that UNICEF has provided transport to all UNEB personnel who are going to be running exams in the different schools in Mubende and Kassanda districts, which are currently on lockdown.

Odongo also refuted social media allegations that the PLE exams have already leaked out thus warning all persons thinking of participating in any form of examination malpractice that they will be dealt with in accordance with the newly passed UNEB Act of 2021.

A total of 832,810 candidates are expected to sit for this year’s PLE exams from 14,153 examination centers, 61 of these candidates are inmates at Luzira Upper Prison School and 2,316 are special needs candidates.
