Members of the Uganda Medical Interns United association that include; Medical Officers, Nurses, Pharmacists and Midwives are to lay down tools starting Monday next week over nonpayment of their allowance for September and October 2022.

This has been revealed by their President General, Leonard Mutebi citing the Ministry of Health’s failure to implement President Museveni’s directive of increasing their allowances to 50% of the salary of their full time seniors employed by Government.

He also says that they have held several engagements with the Health Ministry officials but they keep on promising that they will fulfill and they can’t wait any longer.

Mutebi says they can’t continue putting their lives at stake amidst the ongoing Ebola outbreak without pay.

During their last engagement with President Museveni last year, he directed that intern Pharmacists be paid shs2.5m but they are only receiving shs2m, Nurses were to get shs2.4m but only get shs1.5m, while Midwives were to be paid shs2.4m but are currently receiving shs1.5m only.
